Walk Score is a website that provides a numerical ranking or score to any address based on the walkability of the surroundings and neighborhood. They aim of help help homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents find houses and apartments in walkable localities.

Basically, the process is quite simple. Users visit walkscore.com and enter a desired address. The site maps a series of local landmarks it has pulled from Google Maps: grocery stores, restaurants, school, coffee shops etc. It then calculates the Walk Score of the address based on a number of factors. Walk Score states that walkable neighborhoods all have common features including a pedestrian-centric design, close proximity to schools and workplaces, and parks and public space to name a few.

On a scale of 100, a score of 90 and above is a walkers paradise. On the other end of the spectrum a score below 25 is driving only where virtually no neighborhood destinations within walking range.

Walk Score currently support addresses in the United States, Canada, and the U.K, while more countries are coming.
