thoughtbot is a consulting firm that develops Ruby on Rails web applications for clients ranging from venture-backed startups to Fortune 500 companies. Formed in 2003, thoughtbot is based in Boston, MA and is privately owned. Everyone at thoughtbot codes.
They are one of six consulting companies recommended by the Rails core team at http://rubyonrails.org/ecosystem.
They offer monthly Beginning and Advanced Ruby on Rails training at their Boston office. They also offer training at clients offices.
They offer a service called Kickstart where they build a web application while training the employees of the client. When the client team is self-sufficient, the engagement is over.
They wrote and maintain many open source Ruby projects such as Paperclip, Shoulda, Factory Girl, and Clearance. Paperclip and Shoulda are on githubs most watched list at http://github.com/popular/watched
