what do you think about the use of polystyrene in disposable consumer products? |
ABOUT US
The Green Cup is a company focused on revolutionizing consumer culture through modern bioplastic technology. As it stands now, the dominant player in the party-cup arena is the infamous red cup.
Today, almost every red cup is made of polystyrene, which is manufactured from petroleum. Due to the limited recycling options of the oil-based plastic, as well as the throw-away consumer culture that has developed around the red cup, we feel that it is time to introduce something new and better for our environment while still holding onto the same feeling that the red cup offered.
Our product, The Green Cup, is made from Inego bioplastic by NatureWorks LLC, a material comparable to plastic derived from corn! It is biodegradable, compostable, and even if thrown away, it will not pollute the ground or the air with toxins like petroleum-based plastic cups do.
We hope to introduce our cup at UC Santa Barbara in the spring of 2009, so stay tuned and we'll keep you up to date! Please email bdunlay[at]engineering.ucsb.edu with any questions.
