ABOUT US
Well known European entrepreneur and LeWeb conference organiser, Loic Le Meur, is the founder of seesmic, a video service mimicking and aggregating your favorite web products. seesmic hits the video scene trying to take advantage of past successes by initially building off their networks rather than building a community and content from the ground up.
Currently the service could be described as a Video Twitter, however, Le Meur has a grander plan in store for his new site which includes perpetual interaction around both professional and user generated content.
Users can upload video directly from their webcam and post it to a personal page like with Twitter. They can also grab content from other sites such as YouTube by copying a videos url and placing it in their stream. Additionally, videos that users create can be automatically linked to in twitter (potentially other platforms) and uploaded to YouTube.
Now that seesmic is open, there appears to be tension concerning etiquette among the established habits of long-time users of the platform and newcomers. Early users are very passionate about the service.
Seesmic currently has three episodic features. In Seesmic du Jour, founder Loic Le Meur covers changes and notes of interest concerning the platform. In Seesmix, Giselle offers a review and observations about notable topics in the seesmic community. In The Seesmic Cafe, VinVin offers a comedic look at the seesmic community, utilizing a talk show format where a previously proposed hot topic will be covered, featuring samples from the user base as well as an interview with a user.
In the future, seesmic users will be able to record skype conversations, video and chat. seesmic will incorporate RSS feeds for individual users similar to Facebooks newsfeed. Finally, Lemur sees seesmic partially becoming a crowdsourced Online TV with the most popular producers receiving revenue share.
