Sclipo - Social Learning Network

Sclipo is a social learning network. People and organizations use Sclipo to teach, learn and to connect members with common educational interests.

What problems does Sclipo solve?
Sclipo was founded to improve online learning. Learning is social, collaborative and audio-visual. Yet, today’s online learning is hierarchical and text-based with hardly any networking possibilities. Furthermore, it is asynchronous, meaning without live interaction among students and teachers.

How does Sclipo improve online learning?
Sclipo improves online learning by harnessing the power of new Internet technologies and use-behaviors. Sclipo integrates rich educational applications - such as a live web classroom and an educational video platform - with state-of-the-art social network features. Members can learn both synchronous and asynchronously. Sclipo also enables formal and informal learning by allowing each member to post (and evaluate) educational content and activities.

How does Sclipo work?
At Sclipo, each member has a personal Profile to connect with other members and to enroll in courses, join study groups and participate in educational events. The member Profile also serves to store learning materials and to showcase teaching activities - if a member uses Sclipo also to teach.

All Sclipo members have the option to teach, regardless of whether they are professional teachers or not. For this, Sclipo provides each member with an Academy Space. The Academy Space offers innovative tools to create, promote and conduct educational activities on- offline, synchronous and asynchronously. The main applications offered in the Academy Space are:
Courses (Jan 2009): create and post paid or free courses you teach online (synchronous and/or asynchronously) and face-to-face.
Academy Library: post educational content in any format - videos, documents and soon images and audio.
Academy Web Classroom (Jan 2009): teach online one or many students live. Web Classes can be paid or for free. Teacher and students interact live through webcam, chat, whiteboard as well as through an integrated document and video presenter. Classes are recorded.
Community: browse students, and soon groups and events (Feb 2009).

Sclipo comes available in three languages English, Spanish and German.
