Re:char, develops low-cost renewable energy systems to produce biochar and biofuel from agricultural waste. Biochar is a high-carbon soil amendment, similar to charcoal. It is produced from any type of waste biomass, and has shown great promise as a means to improve the quality of degraded soils. It has also been hailed by leading climate scientists James Hansen and James Lovelock as one of the few cost-effective ways to permanently sequester atmospheric carbon. Biofuel, the other by-product, has been proven to be an effective substitute for no. 2 fuel oil and capable of powering a conventional diesel engines. Our technology can produce fuel and biochar at a price affordable enough for the developing world.
