ABOUT US

Parichay, the Indian word for introduction, is both the name of our organisation and the description of our work. A group of committed young individuals, our efforts are aimed at ‘introducing’ rural India to the globe, on the platform of its rich crafts tradition.

Our agenda is both cultural and socio-economic. We intend to convince rural India of its own worth and win respect for its traditions from the world. This respect we will translate into the much-needed income rural India cries out for.

We aim to connect the India of the village to the globe by promoting rural crafts in urban markets, by contemporizing such craft forms with the help of designers and also by providing design training to village level artisans.

1. We see ourselves as procurers and suppliers of rural Indian craft products through our website www.parichay.co.in as well as when commissioned for bulk orders for which we offer customization services.
2. We see ourselves as a medium within which innovation may be encouraged. To this end we are building up an integrated network of designers sympathetic to the idea of the fusion of the ethnic and the contemporary and we intend to bring them into dialogue with rural artisans.
3. We see ourselves as a channel whereby rural India may enter the urban home and we are excited by the possibility of collaborating with architectural firms and design houses.

For us, the phrase ‘global village’ is prophetic and we have taken it upon ourselves to fulfill it. We wish to make the village global. We wish to be a bridge spanning economic and cultural divides – to celebrate the differences that add to the world’s beauty and to eliminate those that take away from it.
