ABOUT US
Kosmix is a vertical search engine. In essence, Kosmix wants to use their search engine to create a Home Page for Every Topic. Their strategy is to create a series of targeted topic pages with relevant links, groups, and media. The pages are not only easily indexable by Google, but can easily generate new pages around a topic by typing a phrase into their search engine. Kosmix health consumer site, www.righthealth.com, is now the sixth most visited health site on the web. Kosmix also recently released a consumer auto site, www.rightautos.com as well as travel site www.righttrips.com
They have been working on other verticals as well, listing sports, politics, finance, and video games as their other categories. The hope is to scale to even more verticals and then bind them together under one search box that picks the right vertical for the page.
Note that founders Harinarayan and Rajaraman were co-founders of Junglee, the first shopping search engine which was acquired by Amazon.com in 1998, and later creators of Amazon.coms Mechanical Turk. The dynamic duo came close to buying Google in 1999 when they represented Amazon; they passed twice. Perhaps they can redeem themselves with Kosmix.
In June 2008, Kosmix finished the restructuring of its search engine, changing the focus from vertical to more horizontal.
