Kaleo

A Swedish immigrant is working in a factory in Massachusetts. He’s a machinist who builds airplane engines for a major corporation to support his family. Tinkering in his spare time, the man designs a ceramic drill bit to replace the expensive titanium ones that keep wearing out in the shop.

Forty years ago, the man would have shown it to his boss, gotten a promotion and his name on a plaque — end of story. He’d still be working for some big company until retirement.

Today, that man could look around and see Kaleo. He would see a network of small and medium enterprises owned by entrepreneurs like himself, managed by a small core of business strategists, and initially funded by a group of private investors.

Kaleo would provide the fledgling entrepreneur with a capital loan from the investment group, unmatched strategic advice from the management group, and enterprises from the business group to provide legal, marketing, and logistical services to launch his new business.

Meanwhile, a mother of three in Ethiopia wants to start a business making toys for children in her area. She needs capital to start it and a company to manufacture her designs.

Back in the U.S., a successful Christian investor wants to leave a legacy when he retires. He’s looking for a meaningful start-up in which to invest.
