fon is a startup wifi company attempting to turn your business or home wifi router into a link in a network of publicly accessible hotspots. Users who opt to share their WiFi with others and become Foneros will gain access to the rest of the free Fon Network. Although ISPs have traditionally banned the resale of sharing of their broadband connection, Fon believes it is in the interest of and ISP to offer their clients entrance into a free network of hotspots.

Some ISPs are believers including Time Warner Cable, British Telecom and Neuf (France) which all endrose Fons WiFi sharing across their networks. Fons currently has the largest free hotspot network and will continue to grow assuming more partnerships materialize.

Fon has a slew of big investors which include strategic investors as well as venture funds: Google, Skype, Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Excite and Digital Garage. British Telecom, with whom Fon has a distribution partnership, is also an investor in the company. The Company has raised around $35 million.
