Electric Pipeline Corporation
We are developing conventional conductor based, polymer insulated HVDC electric pipelines, "elpipes." Elpipes that are passively cooled can carry up to 25 GW, and will form a vital part of the HVDC grid of the future.

ABOUT US
Roger Faulkner introduced the idea of long distance power transmission in expert testimony (by EE Professor Willis "Bill" Long of UW-Madison) that he presented to the Advance Plan 6 process before the Wisconsin PSC, in 1991. The idea goes back to Buckminster Fuller in the 1950's, and the concept has many advocates, the oldest of which is GENI (http://www.geni.org/). My idea is a practical, underground implementation idea for this concept, based on novel electric pipelines, which consist of massive aluminum conductors sited within steel pipelines of the type used to transport natural gas. The steel outer pipeline will protect the inner conductor, and shield it from the environment magnetically.
