ABOUT US
Why did we create BlooSee?
Information about the ocean is fragmented and gets out of date quickly. At the same time, the most vital piece of information, the local knowledge, is still conveyed by word of mouth, by email, or it is scattered all over the Internet in multiple entries in forums and blogs. In addition, all the communities that care about the ocean are not talking to each other.
Our goal is to create a one-stop shop for all ocean information, local knowledge included, combining official data and user generated content in a single map-based and socially driven site, allowing for a better enjoyment, understanding and conservation of the world’s oceans.
BlooSee is also a social network, but not a silo: it is synched with Twitter and Facebook, allowing Twitter followers and Facebook friends to experience the users' activity on BlooSee.
BlooSee is in public beta and open to all users for free.
Who creates the information on BlooSee?
The information on BlooSee is created, edited and maintained by a community of sea lovers like you.
The Explore Section of BlooSee shows bits of geolocated infomation called infopoints which are represented by color coded icons. These can be edited or added wiki-style by any registered user -and viewed by any visitor to the site. Each infopoint accepts hyperlinks and photos, and has a unique URL you can link to.
What’s next?
New features and enhancements are being developed as we speak. We have plans to add a great deal of functionalities such as live weather data, nautical chart overlays, real time vessel tracking, real time route optimization, augmented reality navigation,... and more. Stay tuned!
We have a free iPhone app available for download. iPad and Android apps are in the works.
How did BlooSee come about?
BlooSee was started in 2009 in Barcelona, Spain, by a group of ocean lovers who had the vision of bringing the Web 2.0 to the world’s oceans. Currently, BlooSee.com is a service of BlooSee, Inc. a United States startup company having its place of business in Silicon Valley, California. Telephone +1 650 450 8583
