baisikeli
The purpose of Baisikeli is to make bikes accessible for the poorest people of the world. We do that by sending used quality bikes to Africa, and rebuild the bikes into meeting the needs of transportation in rural areas.

ABOUT US
Baisikeli is the Swahili word for Bicycle. And the bicycle is the vehicle for the progress we create. Our approach is to create development. The economy is seen as a source towards the goal, sustainable development.
We strive to make bicycles accessible in the poorest areas of the world. Here the bicycle can be a way out of poverty. We have designed bicycles that meet the needs of the poorest, and by that we can:
• Increase a farmers income by more than 100%
• Create access to health care
• Increase attendance in primary school
All are key factors in reducing extreme poverty and meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
The idea is to lease bicycles out in the rich part of the world. After two years, the bicycles will be sent to Africa, and the value of the bicycle will be written off by Baisikeli. By doing this we can get high quality bicycles cheaply to Africa. In Africa, the bicycles are repaired or rebuild and then sold. The profit is invested in the development project hosting the workshop, and in additional development of the bicycle workshop. Our long term goal is to have the bicycles that are leased out in Denmark to be built in our own workshops in Africa.
