ABOUT US
Anjna was founded in 2008 by Vineet Singal. The organization started when Vineet took a quarter off from Stanford and volunteered full time for a free clinic in hurricane-stricken Galveston, TX, and noted the absence of any form of patient education infrastructure. Starting from a group of medical students at the UTMB-Galveston, the organization now has a large and dedicated group of individuals from Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley.
Named after Vineet's mother, Anjna Singal, the organization partners with large foundations such as the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the American Heart Association (AHA). The purpose of this partnership is to analyze the materials created by these organizations and distill the information into a textually minimal, visually appealing form which will be easily accessible to patients in free clinics around the country.
Anjna is a health education nonprofit based in Stanford, CA. Anjna first communicates with clinics to assess their patient education needs. We then provide them with materials that we develop on our own or we select from hundreds of sources online for being patient friendly and visually appealing. We focus on five categories: nutrition, lifestyle/exercise, diabetes, heart disease and mental health, with our focus on mental health being something that separates us from other health education organizations. We translate these materials into multiple languages so that they are accessible to a wide variety of populations. We also work with the clinics and provide consulting services to ensure that health education becomes part of the clinic infrastructure. Our website serves as a health education database, and contains links to all of our materials, plus links to health education videos and interactive modules. Finally, we will offer a smartphone (iPhone/Android etc.) application beginning this fall as well as begin developing health education curricula that will be led in case-study and seminar formats in free clinics.
