Who am i…well i’m a graphic and interior designer. I’m Dutch and did my studies in Los Angeles at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and Art Center College of design. I lived in Los Angeles for many years before returning to Amsterdam. So why move to Tanzania you would ask…
My own experience has been nothing short of extraordinary, as I came to Tanzania 4 years ago from Amsterdam and landed straight in the middle of nowhere. I was residing in a small Maasai village near Lake Natron, on the east side of Tanzania. There I made my living as an Interior Designer/Camp Manager for a tented lodge.
My experience was overwhelming, as the beauty and the simplified way of life completely changed my mindset. It felt much like going back in time. There was no rush, no pressure, no noise…just silence and the mesmerizing beauty of nature. At night the sky turns black and millions of stars appear so clearly that it takes your breath away. For me, the African night sky triggered a realization about our position on this planet and how immense it really is out there. This is when I knew that I had found my place, my peace, my home.
I met my husband, Liumbu, in the bush and we now have two beautiful babies. Together, we started Pangolin African Safaris to offer a profoundly different type of safari in comparison to other companies. We take a personalized and wide-ranging approach to our profession.
As an experienced interior/graphic designer for hotels and lodges within Tanzania, I am confident that I know what guests are looking for. Liumbu is an expert, multi-disciplined guide who has been in the business for a number of years.
He has spent the last few years driving guests through the different National Parks while guiding and educating them about the animals, history and geography. More intimate tours have involved walking safaris and various mountain climbs. Given our knowledge and experience, we thought it was time to start our own safari company to share our perspective on Tanzania and the real bush experience with others.
Now we have a safari company called Pangolin African Safaris so we can show our clients the magic Tanzania has to offer. Karibu Sana (your very welcome in Kiswahili)
