Description: - Designed and implemented LOOT.com, at the time, the UK's most trafficked classifieds site, which won many awards, including the Lotus Work the web award, and the Professional Publishing Association awards. Completed design and implementation of both the software running on the site, plus the complete hosting system, loot.com was hosted completely in-house, Responsible for set-up of DNS, Web farm, load balancing systems, database systems, monitoring and alerting, SMTP mail systems and complete staging facilities. Wrote the search engine used on the site.
- Loot.com takes about 30-35 million hits (pages) per month. And about 0.5 million unique users.
- Application circa 120,000 lines of C++, 80 Main Classes.
- Skills: Visual C++, SQL server 6.5 + 7.0. NT 4 and win2k (beta program), XML, ISAPI.
- Built complete integrated e-Commerce solution based on MS site server 3.0. From 1998 onwards responsible for creation of new technical frameworks, including digital television distribution (Liberate on TeleWest and NTL) and WAP integration. LOOT was the first interactive WAP application hosted in the UK.
- Skills: Site Server 3.0 Commerce edition, C++ (pipeline components), Data cash payment gateway. SQL server 7.0. Transaction server.
- Extensive use of UML as a design Modelling Tool, generation of requirements, Use cases, Test cases, QA schedules. Tools used "Enterprise Architect" and "Object Engineering Workshop”.

Description: - Design and implementation of Loot's internal pagination system Eagle. Eagle is a unique windows based application that uses an object orientated database system (OODBMS) to model the physical and logical characteristics of a classified paper. A powerful pagination system folds advertising pulled through programmable 'Portals' from ODBC based databases, into fully made-up and ready to output artwork representing a complete classified newspaper. Eagle reduced a job taking 11 people 3 hours using Quark Xpress, to 1 man taking 1 hour on an Eagle system.
- Responsible for complete architecture and design of application, managed team as a manager/programmer of 3 people during implementation phase. Responsible for generating about 50% of the code base.
- Application circa 150,000 lines of C++, 180 Main Classes.
- Skills: Borland C++, POET OODBMS, Oracle, SQL server, NT (on first beta program).

Position: Technical Director (Publishing Systems)
Time period: January 1989 - December 1991
Description: - Based in the Cotswold town of Cheltenham, NTG2000 provided custom PC based solutions for the graphics arts industry. The two main products where. Operated as Director/Lead Engineer
- A PC based Postscript raster imaging system, optimised for large format colour page output and high quality magazine formats. (Zortech C++)
- A DOS based newspaper pagination system with advanced "live" connectivity to advertising feeds. Distributed design allowed additional workstations to be added to increase overall processing power of the advertising cluster. (Zortech C++, Phar Lap 32Bit DOS-Extender system).
- System was used extensively in Milan by Italian publishing group “Secondamano”. Spent 1 year on site supervising installation and roll-out.
- A Postscript page imposition system used by the Office of Official Publications of the European Union to prepare plates for reports of proceedings in the European parliament. (Borland C++)
