WORK EXPERIENCE
| Employer: | Maunsell Consultants |
| Position: | Building Services Engineer |
| Time period: | April 2004 - January 2006 |
| Description: | Starting in this company as a graduate engineer I further developed my professional consulting skills through working with clients to solve problems as well as further developing my practical engineering skills for the built environment. Several of the projects I worked on include; the Auckland Vector Arena, Wairarapa hospital, Masterton Hospital, Tauranga Hospital, Auckland Museum and the ASB central computer system.
The design of these systems required a thorough understanding of the following engineering principles; air-conditioning, energy transfer, thermal fluids, acoustics, hydraulics, principles of energy efficiency and sustainability. In my role I endeavoured to build open relationships with my colleagues, suppliers, contractors and clients. |
| Employer: | Auckland University Students’ Association |
| Position: | President |
| Time period: | December 2002 - November 2003 |
| Description: | As President I was directly responsible for all the affairs of the association including leading and motivating a team of 20 executive members, acting as a trustee and director for the association, liaising with the University as well as students and other associations on a wide variety of matters. I was elected as a member of the University of Auckland’s highest governing body, the University Council. I was elected as the Auckland Regional Management Chair Person for Student Job Search Aotearoa and the Southern Chair for Universitas 21 Student Network (U21SN) consisting of students’ associations from around the world. I was also a prominent member of the New Zealand Universities Students’ Association (NZUSA) Federal Executive for 2003.
Achievements: • Significantly reduced the Associations’ bank overdraft from negative cash flows of over -$450,000. • Successfully negotiated a 50% ($400,000) increase in the services contract offered by the University in return for added student services on campus. • Improved and successfully modified the services agreement between the Association and the University to come into alignment with the goals of the Association. • Facilitated negotiations for the acquisition of University Book Shop Ltd - worth over $2.5 million. This required careful analysis of the accounts history, sourcing expert advice and obtaining financial security for the purchase of the company. • Prepared and monitored a $2+ million dollar annual budget spread across several departments within AUSA. • Restructured the finance department that resulted in one redundancy and further improvements that added to the overall efficiency of the organisation. • Initiated, approved and started to develop several long-term projects for the Association. • Conducted a widespread on campus campaign that required motivating a large group of volunteers over 2 weeks and organising mass media coverage including, leaflets, radio advertising, posters, emails, lecture speaks and print media. • Prepared agendas, reports and memos. • Competent and comfortable in chairing formal meetings that typically require a good comprehension of constitutional requirements, standing orders and meeting protocol. • Confident and punctual at giving formal speeches, presentations and lectures to large groups of people. |
