| Description: | Mr. Portnoy began his career in investment banking, helping LTCB International and later SBCI (UBS Ag) develop and expand its fixed income proprietary trading and capital market research practice. In 1988, he created and operated his own company, ATLAS, operating it in partnership with Thomson Financial. Thomson acquired it in full in 1992. Thereafter, until his departure in 2000, Mr. Portnoy served as a new product & business development director and key member of the Corporate Venturing Unit in Thomson with a broad global remit. As product director, Mr. Portnoy was responsible for creating a number of new on-line information and analytical businesses for the capital markets group in Asia/Pacific, Emerging Markets and Europe, including the electronic publishing division of the IFR. Mr. Portnoy was also involved in the due diligence, valuation and integration projects surrounding the acquisition of Privatization International, Acquisitions Monthly, and Primark Inc as well as minority investments by TF Ventures in a number of mid-stage companies. |
