I'm a single dad working two startups with no outside investors. Suffice to say I am busy.

My primary company is Appleton Computer Corporation (DBA Appleton Computers). We provide IT support for small and medium businesses that can't afford a full time IT staff. We have a 2000sqft brick and mortar on Main street in Green Bay. We are currently renovating it. That will be our residential retail/service center. When renovations are done we will come out of stealth mode with a soft opening. We also, have our office HQ in Appleton WI.

I started the company as a hobby business several years ago. It spread by word of mouth unintentionally until it became my sole source of income. In 2007, I decided to bring in the talent of a number of friends and incorporate (C-corp). Today we've got a large retail location on, I believe to be, a good high traffic location. Soon we will be coming out of stealth and start advertising, marketing, and whatever else to start drawing in customers other than by word of mouth alone.

The other startup I'm working on is my chairman's company. That is an export compliance auditing company. There I am an auditing agent and CTO.

I believe these companies will both survive and thrive, even in this economy. They are both a necessary evil. Legal compliance can not be done away with and few SMB's can afford to retain full time IT staff nor ignore their infrastructure.
