Omar Al-Omar – CEO and Founder of Brightgrad

Omar graduated in 2002 with a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and 2003 with an MSc in Impacts Engineering from the University of Science Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). Omar joined QinetiQ as a graduate engineer contributing to the development of the CORTEX graduate training program in affiliation with Bristol University School of management. On leaving after 3 years and achieving Senior Chartered engineering status after working on various R&D, design and strategic projects for the MOD he joined Carillion. At Carillion Omar served as a Senior Blast Effects Engineer within the Counter Terrorism Group leading large commercial and government projects involving various tasks from project management, strategic analysis and account handling. As part of the graduate mentoring program at Carillion Omar contributed to the development of HR initiatives to attract, secure and retain graduates. Realizing the power of social media and the rise of Enterprise Web 2.0 he saw a real opportunity to use this technology which led to starting his new venture, Brightgrad in March 2008.
