| Time period: | January 2005 - September 2005 |
| Description: | Diploma Project: design and styling of express bus for KSRTC
The project aimed at giving a new experience of travel to most loyal user group of Karanataka state road transport corporation. This project was not only to style the express bus known as Karnataka Sarige but also to find newer ways of door openings and air ventilation. It involved a deeper understanding of formal and usability issues. Floor Cleaning Device (Simple Product Design): In this project the emphasis was on the Indian way of cleaning the floor and also how we hold the cloth and move in a particular manner while cleaning the floor. Material: thermoform plastics are material for the product as The device remains in contact with water while in use. The only metal component is twisted wire stainless steel wire handle. Processes: vacuum forming has been employed as process. Interface of Handy-Camcorder (Display and Control) The project revolved around the problem a new user faces while going through the interface of the camcorder. For it a high 8 camcorder was taken and usability problems of the new users has been identified by various user testing. At the end the control panels were redesigned and repositioned on the hard interface while soft interface controls are left untouched. The emphasis while redesigning the interface was on the natural eye and had movement of a new user. Concrete Mixer (Technically Complex Project): This project caters to a very unique problem area in tools of construction. It was found during the preliminary survey for design opportunity that small contractors buy small concrete mixers and hire big concrete mixers they take these small concrete mixers to different floor heights to mix for columns although with difficulties. This creates problem as regular mixers are not made for taking and shifting the way user shift them. This particular behavior of user also provides design opportunity that I tried to address during this project. Panipoori Thela: System Design The project four aimed at gaining the understanding of system behavior through studies and surveys and identification of design intervention areas in existing system. In the later part of the project a solution in the form of product was required. I designed a panipoori thela keeping in mind the seasonal occupational shifts and switch overs as well as the system dynamics in mind. A unique poori dispensing unit which based on the fact that poories tecilate and untouched by hand pani container are sailent features of this thela. Industrial training: Understanding and application of work culture of an industry in a product design project was the aim of this two months industrial training. My job was to redefine the storage units on bicycles for teenagers as I did my training at TI Cycles of India, Chennai. |
