Description:
Developed thesis in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Engineering at Cornell University. Responsibilities included keeping a log of my research activities in a lab notebook, and communicating my progress in weekly reports and through presentations to the research group.
Simulations using Comsol Multiphysics 3.3a and Matlab were carried out on models relating to one dimensional and two dimensional ion transport and fluid flow were solved and analyzed. An improvement to Comsol’s Nernst-Planck model whereby the logarithm of the ion concentration was implemented such that negative numeric values of concentrations leading to computation errors were avoided. A quantitative method for determining the resonant frequency of a specific domain was proposed and applied to a specific system whereby subsequent qualatative analysis of simulations seemed to inform that such a resonance had been found within the precision of the investigation.
