The Bacterial Flagellar Motor is an incredible motor, spinning faster than a formula one engine at only 100nm in size. It is capable of moving E. Coli many diameters per second and responding to its surroundings to bias a random walk towards nutrients. Life arises out of motion, and this remarkable bionanomachine is responsible for one of the oldest and continuing sources of motility on the planet.
In our quest for further miniaturisation and nanotech machinery we must look at the bionanotechnology already within us that is the pinnacle of 5 billion years of evolution.
