FULL BIO

Matthew Freckelton is young business minded entrepreneur who is currently studying for a BA Honours in Sociology at York University (UK).

He is the current Digital Communications Director and NACUE Liaison for the York Entrepreneurs Society; the Society holds regular business centred events and speaker events every academic term. As part of his brief Matthew is responsible for the website (45,000 hits a year), online database, e-mail system and producing video media for online distribution.

In September 2009 the YES won the Society Award at the IEEC 2009 for which Matthew was proud to receive the award on behalf of the society. The society had won the award for its work it had done with students and making real step changes within the local community. At the time of this work Matthew was the Events Director for the society and thus was central the development and implementation of the society’s events and subsequent award.

Matthew also works as an intern for the White Rose CETLE in York, where he has taken on a number of projects including research into ‘Ideation’, from which a master’s module is currently being developed for the University.

Along with another intern, Scott Murphy, Matthew is operating his own student business known as York Student Market. The proposal has gained proof of concept funding from Yorkshire Forward (Regional Development Agency), the business will see a student run market on the campus of York where students and external businesses will be able to run their own market stalls and sell direct t students.

Description: Coordinates the society in all areas relating to NACUE. Maintenance and improvement of the Societies website (35,000 hits a year), YouTube channel, Facebook page, Younoodle account, Flickr account, Humyo Online Data Service and e-mail account system.

Description: My job to organise and coordinate all university based entrepreneur societies within the North of England. To aid this it is my job to provide an overall strategy and regional plan with achievable objectives and goals. I also where needed help universities set up of new societies and provide them with advice and contacts where appropriate.

Description: I have helped on regular occasion with leafleting and canvassing. Further to this I played an integral part in a ‘Cameron Direct’ event that was held at the Loughborough Town Hall in 2008. As a Researcher I have looked into a number of local issues, ranging from ‘the night time economy’ to ‘the impact of the recession’, from these reports local party policy has been formed and implemented.

Description: Six week internship based at the Northern Rail Headquarters in York developing a 30 page report on the number, type and sort of databases available within Northern Rail. From which recommendations were made on how to improve the service provided by Northern Rail to its customers.

Description: Organised and ran three Events; The Blueprint, The Trader and The Apprentice York 2009. The Apprentice York 2009 was the largest and most successful business competition ever hosted at the University of York with over 120 applicants and a prize fund of £1000. Built a portfolio of contacts in a number of different public and private sectors. Secured the societies position within the University as the largest and most profitable student run societies, ensured continued funding from the NCGE, Regional Development Agency and KPMG.
