| Description: | NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
• Embodied functional prototypes of thin-film solar technology for personal and military back-up power applications. Solved start-up client's critical technical challenge and created prototypes that were instrumental in client's securing 13M USD of venture funding. • Conducted live animal and human cadaver studies to establish safety of laser treatment used by a category-creating medical device seeking to penetrate a $1.5B market. Coordinated activities of a four-person team and external laboratory. Study was instrumental for attaining FDA 510(k) safety clearance. • Designed new-to-market medical device that received the 2009 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation of the Year Award. • Received the BusinessWeek IDEA Design Distinction award for concept and prototype work on XO Laptop, a low-cost laptop for the developing world. • Named inventor on 3 technology patents. CONSUMER-LED INNOVATION • Conducted ethnographic research to assess consumer acceptance of green cooktop technology.Reviewed client IP, manufacturing capability to assess readiness to implement technology. Delivered positioning strategy and design concepts to client. • Led a team of 3 in the ethnographic research used to guide an in-store experience strategy for Fortune 500 telecom client during a critical post-merger period. Facilitated 2-day creative boot camp involving client executives, internal brand team and external advertising agency to launch strategy execution. • Conducted ethnographic consumer research to extract user needs and inspire design of a diabetes care device. Managed a team of 4 and a budget of $75,000/month. Related consumer stories to client through video compilation and story boards. Worked with team to design, prototype and conduct resonance tests of the device. Device set to launch in US, Europe and Asia markets in 2009. PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP • Headed engineering group's knowledge building initiative: set up training workshops with industry reps, organized field trips to manufacturing facilities. • Initiated, organized and facilitated yearly off-site to set goals, guide program development and recruiting for the engineering group (15 people). • Successfully managed up to 4 projects at a time, delivering on time and on budget. • DESIGN ADVOCACY • Represented firm as guest speaker on in-context design and setting design metrics at the International Design and Development Summit at MIT. • Consulted on curriculum development for Design Squad, a Public Broadcast Service (PBS) engineering challenge show for pre-teens. • Volunteered as industry mentor for MIT Product Development course. |
