Description: Main duties and responsibilities:
Audit
• Apply Branch Audit Policy and Procedures to ensure voluntary compliance with the Retail Sales Tax Act by vendors
• Evaluation of large vendors’ computerized systems and verify that all Retail Sales Taxes collectable and payable have been remitted to the Ministry (including Jumbo Audits)
• Analyze vendors’ computerized systems and evaluate internal controls
• Audit all areas of a vendor’s operations, and determine their compliance of the Retail Sales Tax Act; work with the vendors to assist them in resolving any noncompliance of the Act within a reasonable amount of time
• Ensure consistency in the application of the legislation, policy and audit techniques
• Express an opinion on vendors’ compliance with the Retail Sales Tax Act and raise assessments where necessary
• Educate vendors in order to take corrective action for the future
• Extract data from ONTAX, BASYS, ITAS and MOF FileNet, manipulate the information and create and write customized reports
• Document and present audit findings in a professional manner while being conscientious of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
Refunds
• Process and verify refund claims in accordance with the Retail Sales Tax Act
• Consistently apply legislation, procedures, guidelines and policies to all refund claims
• Provide verbal and written legislative information to claimants, as required, to encourage future compliance
• Identify law policy and marketplace issues for resolution and provide this feedback to Audit, legislative and services as applicable
