FULL BIO
Hi! My name is Levi Rosol and I am one of the Co-Founders of ScoreYard.com.
What I’ve Done and What I Do
I am a self taught developer. I do not have a degree (aka: massive debt), and I’m very OK with that.
For the last 10 years I have work primarily with Microsoft technologies. I started in a very entry level position with a large tel-co and worked my way into a corporate developer role relatively quickly. We built massive internal applications for a relatively small number of users. This did let me do a lot of traveling, and allowed me to live in 3 very nice cities (Albuquerque, Phoenix and Denver). Then tel-co went bankrupt, and I was laid off.
Again, I’m very OK with that as it brought be back to Iowa. When I got back to Iowa I started working for a small marketing company in Des Moines. This proved to be invaluable. I was continuing with my developer passion, but now I was learning the skills needed to take a problem and define a solution for it. Basically, this fed and grew the entrepreneurial desire in me that honestly, at the time, I didn’t know I had.
Unfortunately the economy in took a dump in 2008 and it impacted a lot of our clients. I was laid off. Yep, you guessed it. I was very OK with that.
Now I maintain a 8-5′er as a .Net consultant by day, and I am a co-founder of ScoreYard.com by night. ScoreYard is a social hub for sports teams, helping teams connect with fans. In an odd technical twist considering my background, ScoreYard is a Ruby on Rails application. It’s my first non Microsoft based application, and I’m loving it.
I am also the President of the Iowa .Net User Group, and I am one of the leaders of the Iowa Code Camp. If your company is interested in getting in front of over 1000 professional developers in Iowa, I suggest you get a hold of me ASAP.
About Me
Now that we’ve gotten my business and tech background out of the way (probably the reason you’re hear), I’ll also tell you about some other important things in my life.
I have a wife. I have 3 kids. I enjoy building old cars and trucks (I currently have a ‘50 Chevy truck that I drive daily when it’s not raining and a ‘51 Hudson Hornet that I plan to restore). My family and I frequent a good number of regional car shows too. I like to play disc golf, but have not played in a long time. Mostly because I don’t know anyone else who likes to play in the area. We recently acquired a boat, and I’m positive we will get a lot of use out of it.
Basically, I don’t mind sitting in front of a PC for 20 hours a day, but I definitely like my time outside.
I think that about covers it. Got something you want to talk about? Hit me up and lets go have a beer. Levi.Rosol@gmail.com
