WORK EXPERIENCE

Employer: Stanford University
Position: Research Assistant
Time period: December 2006 - Present
Description: Jelena Vuckovic
CMOS compatible laser using pseudo-direct gap n+-Ge grown epitaxially on a Si substrate. Applied convex optimization methods to inverse design probem in electromagnetics. Implemented FDTD on a GPU cluster, resulting in 100-fold speed improvement.

Employer: Stanford University
Position: Research Assistant
Time period: December 2006 - November 2007
Description: Alberto Salleo
Investigated the formation of graphene via laser ablation of a SiC substrate. Modified an excimer laser ablation setup and used X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and electron-beam diraction to fabricate and characterize samples. Obtained preliminary results showing the production of epitaxial graphene with this method.

Employer: University of California, Los Angeles
Position: Research Assistant
Time period: December 2004 - November 2006
Description: Eli Yablonovitch
Numerical optimization of a surface plasmon grating coupler at an Ag-SiO2 interface. Developed a hierarchal optimization algorithm used to produce an optimized grating coupler topology. Formulated a scattering-center/transmission-line abstraction of a grating coupler used to reduce computational load. Wrote a Matlab program interfacing with a FEM package (COMSOL) implementing the optimization routine.

Employer: Inko Pellicles, Sunnyvale, CA
Position: Research Assistant Intern
Time period: December 2002 - November 2003
Description: UV irradiation of pellicle glue to eliminate glue residue on photo-lithography masks during pellicle removal.
