Jaco was born in Potchefstroom and grew up in Pretoria where he ended up as the Dux student of his high school. While in high school his parents always suspected that he would become an engineer, but knew something was wrong when he started selling avos at the robot down the street. He served on the Student Representative Council (SRC) while studying at the University of Pretoria and relocated to Stellenbosch after receiving a post graduate bursary to study MscEng (Industrial). It was in this time that Jaco met his business partner Sheraan at the prestigious Brightest Young Minds conference. After finishing his degree (cum laude), Personera was already registered as a Pty Ltd with a provisional patent application filed. Jaco has a passion for new ideas, hairless cat breeds, coffee machines and Shotokan Karate Do.
