I have taken combinations of courses to suit my interest, aerospace gave me a good insight into the structures as well as aerodynamics, the structures helps me in further contribution to my area of higher interest - Biomedical engineering; by the aerodynamics i look forward to use those concepts for the benefit of everyday application from fans, tubes, pipes to wind-mills and transports. In the environment oriented section i have contributed towards reduction of paper resources in IITM (check: govinda-balan.blogspot.com), also i have contributed to the space of energy-auditing in the campus.

Sustainability Network, IITM was a new organization found for improving the environmental orientation of the institute, as the projects team coordinator my role involved motivating students towards environment oriented pojects, organizing meetings between alumnus and students for a good mentoring program as well as networking with them, scrutinizing the project proposals of different projects under Sustainability Network. We are currently managing a project on Evaporative cooling.

Myself and my team (Green People) hosted a program in Shaastra-2009 for conserving paper resources, our proposal was welcomed and we achieved significant (around 50%) reduction in the paper usage along with monetary gain in the process; our project is also being considered as an integral part for future Shaastra and measures are taken to ensure that its continued by the next Shaastra committee itself.

In this program myself and my team (SOE-W2F) organized and presented the exhibit and demonstration of the project Want-2-Fly to the audience of Shaastra-2008.
Worked in a project for building a semi-automated RC plane called Want-2-Fly (Apr., 2008-Oct., 2008), we achieved a flying prototype in this period, that also demonstrated auto-pilot capabilities without a auto-pilot unit, the main work was to develop programs for the stabilization of the plane. The project was first of its kind in having a clearly oriented organizational structure and is also one of the first projects to be done at the Centre for Innovation (CFI) of IIT-M. My work was more involved in the design and drafting of the aircraft from wood, and we created two sets of similar aircraft for the testing of the project in the given time period.
