Description: I architected and managed a “high data availability,” scalable IT infrastructure with a team of only three people, all while balancing budget and changing engineering requirements, and coordinating between operations, lab, bioinformatics, and Senior Management. We genotyped 10x the genes of our nearest competitor who had 2500 staff to our 220. I tightly coordinated our UNIX team of three to deliver the right solutions the first time and then keep the systems up and running.
• Expanded data centre capacity while reducing power usage.
• Achieved 99.99%+ uptime. (less than 24 hours total downtime/year)
• Coordinated three departments to optimize data usage in 40TB genotype database. This data was the core asset of our company, and had to be available at all times.
• Wrote and implemented security and network plan ahead of Sarbanes-Oxley.

Time period: January 2004 - December 2005
Description: My team of four people primarily operated the Business Intelligence system, requiring complex coordination between several departments, purchasing power, influence on company strategy, and sub-contractors.
• Managed communications between BI, Engineering, Operations, and Sales, reducing the time to generate a bill from 72 hours to less than 24.
• Coordinated Windows, Unix, Operations, and Database groups to set up a new audit/authentication system to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley.

Description: I was the fourth employee at this company, and built its technical infrastructure from the ground up. I managed often-conflicting requirements from all departments in a start-up environment and drove communications between Operations and Engineering, resulting in fast development/release cycles with higher operational uptimes. I supervised 5 people.
• Implemented open-source cutover saving 72% in annualized operating costs.
• Led data centre change, resulting in 30% annualized operating cost savings.
