Freeman Murray

Freeman Murray has worked with technology startups in India and the USA for the last 15 years. While studying computer science at the University of California at Santa Cruz he helped college friends with the first internet music startup distributing independent music on the web - IUMA.com. From there he joined the Java group at Sun Microsystems where he worked with some of the smartest people in Silicon Valley on the Java Server project.

In 1998 He and Sun colleague Pavni Diwanji founded Kendara a browser plugin company providing users with information from different sources relevant to the current browsed page. They raised $7 million in venture finance from Red Point and MDV, pulled together a stellar team of engineers and business people and in 2 years sold the company to the largest broadband internet provider at the time Excite@Home. Since then he has been an angel investor in a number of technology companies.

For the past four years he has been living in Pune India where he managed outsourced development work for his investment companies, and worked with Mixercast.com as chief scientist. He has a long standing interest in the positive role the internet can play in education and society and has been actively involved with a variety of non-profit ventures including The Digital Studyhall, Video Volunteers, Curriki and AirJaldi.
