WORK EXPERIENCE
| Employer: | Magnity |
| Position: | Creative Director |
| Time period: | January 2009 - Present |
| Description: | Long ago, some MadMen discovered they could get people to buy things if they could make you laugh first. That model is worn down to a blunt and increasingly irrelevant and ineffective media interruption.
We are replacing invasive marketing practices with productive, interactive conversations. Magnity is a combination of Marketing and Brand strategy, Web Development, Public Relations, Digital community building, interactive story telling and yes, advertising. The goal is to connect brands and their companies with their customers. |
| Employer: | Graphita, Inc. |
| Position: | Founder, Creative Director |
| Time period: | July 2006 - January 2009 |
| Description: | Graphita is a developer of real-time point and click effects for digital photos. We are making our market introduction with LiveStudio, a suite of stunningly fun to use effects featuring a dynamic interface and print resolution rendering. Live Studio delivers an outlet for creative expression that is personal and intuitive to use.
At Graphita we have two driving principals that are not too complicated to get your head around: The first is FUN. We believe that people have a real need to create and that they wouldn’t mind having fun doing it. Secondly, we believe that people go looking for what they want in the world with their eyes leading the way. Pictures are the entrance to the imagination. We are delivering tools for sharing creative visual expression, which we hope will be more interesting than mere words. We plan to open up our private Beta site in February, 2007 |
| Employer: | WildOutWest, LLC |
| Position: | Principal and Creative Director |
| Time period: | December 1996 - January 2009 |
| Description: | We are the company that is called when people get tired of the same old, programmed thinking.
Our work begins with thorough, detailed research, strong strategic planning and an "anything is possible" creative approach. This approach works well with companies that want to get things done, rather than spend time shuffling documents with the consulting firms. It also works well with start-ups, who have no choice but to get things done efficiently. Partners are directly involved with project management. Everyone gets involved with the creative process and we are religious about meeting deadlines and budgets. We would welcome skills in: Graphic design, applied arts, copywriting, linguistics / language, market research and rustling. |
| Employer: | Shantz, Martin and Partners |
| Position: | Partner, Creative Director |
| Time period: | December 1989 - November 1998 |
| Description: | Going out on your own is never easy. We began on a wing and a prayer and quickly found a few excellent clients. I deliberately changed focus from the consumer packaging I had been doing to develop a specific expertise in companies that were using technology as their primary point of differentiation. Our largest client was OCLI, now part of JDS Uniphase. We changed the way they marketed optical components and created consumer facing branding. We were fortunate to have been able to launch several important new companies: and when Alvy Ray Smith, (co-founder of PIXAR) started his new software firm, Altamira, we were able to help introduce the world to image editing with Alpha Channels. We developed several significant new multimedia products for a spin-off of WordStar named StarPress including Sports Illustrated Interactive and several innovative new titles. The partnership ultimately restructured to become what is now WildOutWest. |
| Employer: | Systems Research and Development |
| Position: | Co-Founder |
| Time period: | December 1982 - November 1985 |
| Description: | We started this company as a sort of alternate MBA program, as our parents ultimately carried the angel round. I was responsible for Public Relations and Marketing. Everyone managed fundraising.
Our image was strong and our message easy to understand, allowing us to close a good deal of funding and to hire some top programming talent. We secured nice offices and even ultimately convinced clients to come on board. The whole process proved much more valuable than an MBA. One of the original founders, Jeff Jonas continued on, and it was acquired by IBM two years ago. |
