David is a member, since 1977, of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and is past chair of the Hoosier Chapter and the PRSA East Central District. He is the first living recipient of the ECD "Don Durocher" Service award. David is a member of the PRSA Counselors' Academy. He serves as an Accreditation instructor on crisis management, organization dynamics and project management. He was on the original national task force reviewing public relations ethics.
David is a member of the Ball State University Public Relations Sequence Professional Advisory Committee and a board member of the Japan-America Society of Indiana. He is past-president of the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation. Programs he has managed for Shank Public Relations Counselors' clients include:
- The Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Dick’s Sporting Goods
- The Indianapolis test market of Procter & Gamble's Fat Free Pringles and supervised four markets for the national roll out.
