INFORMATION

Hobbies: Originally a year rep for first year marketing and currently for third year management, I am also the Heriot Watt University Scottish Enterprise representative as well as a member of the enterprise society. I enjoy giving back to the University and helping with the organization as much as possible.
I love to travel and have spent time in many countries over the last few years. I also enjoy climbing, fishing, shooting and exploring within my native country, Scotland. This interest for travel has also gained me valuable experience working abroad in Greece (see post High School Graduation).
My interest in travel and culture has inspired me to learn the French language, a skill which I am picking up quickly.
I am a big fan of food and fine dining and try and eat out as much as possible.
I became a member of Kaizen Muay Thai (traditional Thai boxing) in Jan 2007 and train two hours per night, four nights per week and consider this my main hobby.
I have a passion for music and attend regular jam sessions with friends and play as much as possible.
Since a very young age I have been fascinated with aircraft and look to peruse flying as one of my main Hobbies.
On most Wednesday nights I train with the collective Edinburgh University Ice Hockey team, the Eagles, but don’t get the opportunity to play many games, due to Saturday work commitments.

As part of my extracurricular activities, I have acquired the current CFA, IMC (Investment Management Certificate) training manuals. I am currently studying for the UK regulations and Markets exam (part 1) and I hope to be fully IMC certified (part 1 and part 2) and a member of the CFA by August 2009.

I was given the opportunity through University to attend the “Standard Life Stock Broker Challenge 2008” at Edinburgh University on 12/11/08. This was a unique insight into the mechanics of a typical stock exchange, giving me a chance to, as part of a team, trade dummy shares on a fictitious exchange using an interactive trading environment. My teambuilding, business awareness, analytical and communication skills were all enhanced as part of this experience, along with a fundamental lesson on the basics of a typical exchange mechanism. My team came second out of nine other participating teams, with success measured on our return after the trading period, against our original capital outlay.

I am a volunteer with LEAPS (Lothian Equal Access Programme for Schools), a government run body, through my University. This gives me the opportunity to help with underprivileged children from secondary schools with lower than average rates of progression into University. I donate my time four times per month by visiting secondary Schools within Edinburgh and the Lothian’s and help facilitate workshops which are designed to encourage and motivate the pupils into considering higher education.

I am NHBC property mis-descriptions act certified (through current position with DTZ).
