Amazon.com’s presence in the mid-1990’s forced this independent bookseller to re-evaluate strategy, coupled a few years later by the discount wars between Borders and Barnes & Noble. The Compass Rose Book Shop responded, implementing measures congruent with the interest of community, procuring the prestigious Lucile Micheels Pannell Award for excellence in children’s programming and earning nomination to the American Bookseller’s Association, Board of Director’s.
During my tenure annual sales grew from $285K to over $600K.
Organized book signing events to include Mary Higgins Clark, Sebastian Junger, and Peter Manso.
Published “Quest”, a monthly newsletter distributed to nurture readers in local schools.
Wrote the “Compulsive Reader”, a daily radio program featuring a cantankerous bibliophile.
Developed a low-cost book acquisition program for schools and public libraries.
Structured a buyback program to re-cycle and re-sell quality used books.
