Through the 9 years at Naspers, Carel has always fulfilled a facilitating/consultation role, inside and outside the division (NBD). He has assisted various group companies in facilitating strategic planning, marketing strategies, restructuring, capacity building and more importantly supported them in the practical implementation of these plans and strategies (normally the phase that falls by the wayside). He was a management consultant (with the SBAB) and decided to utilise those skills, supported by practical experience gained over the past 10 years. He focuses on the effectiveness of strategy communications between the executive and their teams, personnel, customers, shareholders/creditors and community to ensure achievement of objectives and bottom line. He strongly believes that sustainable business is about people (the relationship between various stakeholders) and they deal with each other only through communication. |

After 18 months as a management consultant, Carel was promoted to divisional manager. The changes in SME development policy at the Dti required the SBAB to adapt their approach to market realities. Carel assisted in the formulation of new marketing strategies, organisational alignment and performance management and related rewards. |
