Description: Established UK holding company with subsidiaries in India, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Mexico, etc. Designed business plan with budget and secured financing from the Norwegian Ministry of Finance in Oslo. Raised seed capital for forestry projects in Sri Lanka, India and Ghana from investors in UK, USA and UAE. Recruited a global team of local experts in nine pilot counties to run the subsidiary companies and implement various reforestation and agro forestry projects in partnership with their governments and other stakeholders. Represented the private sector at different COP negotiations held in Bali, Poznan, Copenhagen, Cancun, etc.

Description: Prepared a challenge paper for the group and organised planning meetings in Bristol that were set within the context of Aubrey Meyer’s Contraction and Convergence E.F. Schumacher briefing. Conducted field visits to the tsunami-affected villages where Social Change and Development (SCAD) was working in Tamil Nadu and interviewed village leaders to identify their immediate needs and priorities. Prepared report for installing wind turbines that would generate clean energy to power villages that SCAD operates and a bio-waste recycling and composting plant that would create livelihoods for the rural youth.
Delivered briefings about the Earth Charter Initiative to government officials in the UK from DFID, DEFRA and DFES at regular meetings hosted by the UK National Commission on UNESCO.

Description: Supervised 5 Regional Coordinators to manage the work of the YES Campaign in their regions. Formulated the proposal with technical expertise for setting up the YES Regional Academy in India. Managed the training of Team Leaders from 5 selected countries for the GEF Renewable Energy project. Managed the coordination and implementation of the YES Campaign projects and programmes in the 75 YES Country Networks in Africa, Asia and South America. Developed targeted proposals for sector based country project funding from the United Nations Foundation, Ford Foundation, CIDA, DINIDA, SIDA, DFID, USAID, NORAD and the private sector. Managed the ad hoc working group on youth in collaboration with GYAN on producing the Youth and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): Challenges and Opportunities for Implementation at the U.N.

Description: Conducted research on links between Poverty and Environment for the Economic and Policy Team. Produced a review of quantitative evidence from past studies that proves the Poverty-Environment links. Worked with a lead economist to produce a World Bank publication on the Poverty-Environment research. Participated in different training programmes on economics of climate change mitigation, forest and eco- system management conducted by the World Bank Institute and the International Finance Corporation.

Description: Worked on CSR Protocols for guiding International Environment Forum companies to sustainable development and coordinated the WEC Gold Medal Awards ceremony along with the IEF capacity building workshops. Conducted research on the cement industry in Mexico and co-authored an article on the company CEMEX. Prepared the Type II Partnership WEC project proposal for World Summit on Sustainable Development. Worked with Pfizer in New York on its project to optimize and streamline its communications with Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) agencies by evaluating the scope and complexity of SRI funds. Worked with TotalFinalElf in Paris on its project to meet the requirements for its application to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index (DJSI).

Time period: January 2001 - May 2001
Description: Worked on drafting statements with the Indian mission diplomats and members of national delegation during the 9th Session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). Attended and wrote summary reports on various United Nations Conferences and Expert Group Meetings. Organised briefings for the Minister of Environment and Minister of Finance who attended UN meetings. Participated in the United Nations Security Council briefing given by President Nelson Mandela on the challenges of the U.N. peacekeeping operation in Burundi and reported back to the Indian delegation.

Position: Youth Representative, United Nations Millennium Assembly
Time period: September 2000 - November 2000
Description: Appointed by the Indian Prime Minister as the first Indian Youth Representative to address world leaders at the Millennium Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Creating Sustainable Livelihoods for Youth on behalf of the 350 million young people in India. Lobbied national governments to focus on youth priority issues and funding of youth-led environmental, sustainable development and capacity building projects to address climate change at the national level. Participated in the election process as part of the Indian national delegation to vote for new rotating non- permanent members to the Security Council that was held at the United Nations General Assembly.

Time period: January 2000 - August 2000
Description: Managed the Sustainable Development Learning Center during the 8th annual meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). Assisted the CSD Secretariat in organizing the first ever National Council for Sustainable Development meeting of local authorities working on the implementation of Agenda 21 from UNCED in Rio, Brazil. Prepared the 4th Volume of the Sustainable Development Success Stories publication that was focused on the role of the 9 Major Groups of Agenda 21 and maintained the CSD Secretariat’s official website.

Description: Prepared overview of environmentally oriented projects of different UNDP Divisions in India.
