FULL BIO
Alex Stavros grew up in Peru and is deeply interested in finding innovative ways to confront poverty in Latin America. His parents were missionaries and now run a foundation in the slums of Lima; they have been forever challenged with the need for capital to fund their wonderful work. Growing up, Alex remembers feeling frustrated with the frequently inefficient non-profit approach and the corrupt Peruvian government. He always knew there had to be another way. He eventually began to realize that the poor are better served by direct empowerment rather than by direct loans. He began thinking about development from a private investment perspective. Alex has also had a similarly disappointing experience with un-authentic travel and the perplexing lack of quality and service in the hospitality industry.
Alex graduated with Honors from American University with both an Economic Development and International Relations degree. He is currently an MBA Candidate at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Alex has significant non-profit experience working with the poor in Peru. He also has experience directing people and managing large, complex and highly strategic multi-million dollar projects in the service industry. His leadership and operations experience, at a leading global investment advisory firm, gave him exposure to all corporate areas from recruiting processes and HR systems to marketing analysis and pricing strategies. Alex also has experience building teams and creating, marketing, selling, and launching a multi-million dollar business within his previous company.
Alex's interests and passions include traveling, reading, eating, and finding innovative ways to marry his passion for business with his desire to alleviate poverty and bring about social change.
