ABOUT US
Idea To Product (I2P) is a unique academic competition looking at ideas at their earliest stage. I2P is not a business plan competition. I2P only requires a one-page submission, done according to a format, outlining an idea for a product (or service) and its market. This approach makes it possible for people across campus to develop and present ideas, obtain feedback, and start the process of invention or product development and commercialization.
The Technology Entrepreneur Center is hosting the University of Illinois I2P campus competition in room 301 of the Coordinated Science Lab. Competing students should submit an online entry. Up to ten student ideas will be selected for the Illinois campus round of I2P on October 20, 2011. Online entries for the Illinois campus round of I2P are due by October 10, 2011.
At the campus round, teams or individuals will present to a panel of judges. Up to five student ideas will be chosen for submission into the IL-MO regional competition. If your idea is selected for regional competition, TEC will pay expenses for travel to St. Louis for the regional event in February. Entries for the IL/MO region are due on January 27, 2012. TEC will submit the Illinois campus round’s winners to the IL/MO regional competition.
Saint Louis University has an I2P Regional Competition for the states of Missouri and Illinois, and will host the competition on Febraury 17-18 in 2012. The winner of the regional competition will be eligible for invitation to the International I2P Competition in 2012.
I2P is an international competition, with branches in Asia and Europe as well as several campuses in the United States. The program is based at the University of Texas at Austin. Its website is www.ideatoproduct.org.
The I2P approach provides outstanding feedback to participants, often including the key guidance needed to take ideas to the next step. I2P also offers the larger technology and financial communities the opportunity to get an early view of new ideas, thereby jump starting the development process.
All proposals are screened by a national panel of experts and receive feedback. The teams with the best proposals are invited to present to a blue-ribbon panel, where they receive personal feedback on their idea, and where the winning ideas are selected. Winning submissions receive cash prizes, and become eligible for inclusion in the Global I2P Competition.
A University of Illinois student won the International I2P Competition in 2007, with a $10,000 prize! You could be the next International Winner!
