  • 2. Mary Gordon, founder of Roots of Empathy, talk

TES in conjunction with Ashoka Ireland, Trinity School of Business, DU Psychsoc, Suas and VDP are holding a talk by Mary Gordon, founder of Roots of Empathy.

Roots of empathy is an evidence-based classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among schoolchildren by raising social and emotional competence and increasing empathy. Mary founded Roots of Empathy in 1996 and has now reached over 325,000 children worldwide.

Roots of Empathy makes emotional literacy- the ability to recognise and understand each others' emotions- a core school subject. It ...brings a living example of the loving relationship between parent and child into the classroom. Targeted to children's varying levels of emotional development, Roots of Empathy provides young people with strategies to effectively recognise and respond to the emotions of others.

Roots of Empathy has launched across 40 schools in Ireland and Northern Ireland in September and we are hoping to help Mary extend this reach across the whole country.

The evening will include a 30 minute presentation with Mary followed by a Q & A session, a panel discussion followed by a wine and cheese reception.

This talk will take place in the Thomas Davis Theatre in the arts block at 7.30 this Thursday the 18th of November.

It will be followed by a reception.

Check it out on Facebook: Roots of empathy
