  • 1. Dragons Den

Many many thanks to all that turned up last night in what proved a very entertaining evening, we had approximately 300 in attendance, which was impressive for a Thursday evening and for our first year to run the competition.

Commiserations to the 24 teams that did not receive a prize, some of these had particular mertit and serious commercial potential. I can only hope this hasn't put you off entering any more competitions but made you more determined. All the entries should be applauded for their initiative and pro-activeness.

The overall winners of the €2,000 were Eoin O' Shea, Tim Arnold and John O' Reilly with their 'Burreato' Mexican food van.

The first Runners up prize of €500 went to Amy Coghlan with her Stylesense concept for a purse that fits inside a woman's bra.

The second Runners up prize of €500 went to Freddy Culazzo and Hugh Hackett with their Eskimo Community card which is a loyalty card for local independent retailers.

If you liked what you saw or didn't like what you saw last night maybe you might thinking about getting involved with the TES committee next year to make the event become bigger and better.

  • 2. €50,000 Enterprise Ireland Competition

    http://www.enterprise-ireland.com/StudentAwards09/default...

It would be great to see this prestigious competition won by a Trinity student.

    ---
The 2009 Student Awards, sponsored jointly by Enterprise Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland and Cruickshanks are once again offering third level students across Ireland the chance to compete for the coveted title of College Entrepreneurs of the Year and win a share in the incredible prize fund totalling €50,000 cash and Mentor Support.
The competition, now in its 26th year, is designed to encourage innovation, promote enterprise and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among third level students.
The awards scheme is open to students from all academic disciplines and courses of study. Regardless of your chosen field, if you're a third level student with a novel idea that you think has commercial potential, then this competition is for you. It could even be the start of something really big - your very first step towards establishing your own successful business. Or maybe you might be able to sell on your idea and obtain royalty income from the manufacturing/selling rights.

All you need to do is demonstrate to the judges that your business idea is viable, well thought out and well researched and you're on your way! Ideally your idea should be based on a manufacturing project or an internationally traded service.

  • 4. John Rice + Norwary visit (pizza and beer)

It looks like we're going to have John Rice former Trinity graduate and founder of Jam Media in to talk to TES on Tuesday at 1 subject to confirmation. We'll also have a representative from eoy.tv to talk about this new online platform for entrepreneurs.

After this we'll be having some visitors from Start Norway who run a competition called the Venture Cup which covers the whole of Scandinavia. We're providing free pizza and beer and will be chatting about our experiences with the Dragons Den and what type of stuff they have in store for the Venture Cup among other things.

There is also a tour of the Trinity Enterprise Centre where start-up companies are operating from, a tour of the facilities and a talk from some start-ups happening on the Monday, if you're interested in this please get in touch.

    Kind Regards,

    Brian
