  • 1. Business Plans due by May 8th, 2010

    Participants – don’t forget to upload your Business Plans by 11:59pm on May 8th, 2010.

    To upload your Business Plan, click on “Manage my entry” under the SJSU logo.

    Name your document as follows: Projectname_Date (for e.g. Zombie_May5). We recommend that you upload a single PDF document, but you can upload multiple documents if you need to do so (e.g., ZombieBP_May5, ZombieFinancials_May5, etc.)

    Remember to click on the "Save changes" button after you upload the documents.

  • 3. Business Plan Judging criteria

    Business Plans will be evaluated on the following criteria:

    PRESENTATION: Quality and thoroughness of the presentation and business plan

    CUSTOMER NEED/MARKET OPPORTUNITY: Does it address a significant problem or market void? Who is the customer? What is the Market size?

    BUSINESS CONCEPT: What is the proposed business solution to the identified problem/ opportunity? What is special or ingenious (from a technical or business perspective) about the ‘solution’? What is the strength of the value proposition of the proposed product or service?

    BUSINESS MODEL & PLAN: Does this business have the potential to develop into a viable enterprise? Does the company have a feasible, well developed plan to grow revenues and reach breakeven?

    COMPETITIVE POSITION: Does the presentation demonstrate an understanding of industry competition? Does this business have a strategy to achieve competitive differentiation?

    MARKETING/DISTRIBUTION PLAN: Does this business have a strategy to reach its customers & sell to them?

    DISTRIBUTION & OPERATIONS: Does this business have a well-developed strategy for producing/completing its product/ service offering, and operating effectively to serve customers?

    QUALIFICATION OF FOUNDERS AND THE MANAGEMENT TEAM:
    Do the founders have the requisite knowledge/skills to start the business? Are they cognizant of management voids? Are they committed to expanding the team?

    RISKS AND ASSUMPTIONS
    Have the key risks been identified and addressed? Are the milestones identified and realistic?

    FUNDING:
    Are the financial projections consistent with the specifics of the operation? What are the main uses of funds?

    A final Q that could be asked: “How would winning $10,000 change the way you launch your business? What difference would $10,000 make to your starting up the business?”
