    Amman, Jordan – (January 2009) – In cooperation with the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) and the Business School of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) commenced the 2009 public activities, which will henceforth occur every two weeks, with a seminar entitled “Entrepreneurship as Public Policy”.

    The prominent MIT Entrepreneurship Center team comprised Ms. Michelle Macaux, an American business development professional with experience working with small companies in the developing counties and conducting expansion and competitor analyses for mid-sized firms; Mr. Ike Syed, a licensed Canadian engineer who has worked in both global service providers as well as equipment manufacturers such as Cisco, Lucent, and T-Mobile; Ms. Michele Mixter, who has worked as product manager in the software industry in California, where she gained experience in market sizing and analyzing potential risks; and Mr. Camilo Arango, an experienced technology entrepreneur from Columbia, South America, who has worked as Brand Manager in T-Mobile USA during summer of 2008, where he gained hand-on experience in branding telecommunication products. This team attracted over 150 attendees, headed by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qudah, Dean of the Business School of the PSUT, to the Friendship Auditorium of the PSUT at Jubaiha.

    The seminar has been of particular interest to economists, business developers, students, representatives from Business colleges, investors, inventors, innovators, technology managers, intellectual property specialists, SME’s and large enterprisers, university faculty members, QRCE sponsors, engineers, manufacturers, people interested in business and entrepreneurship, and supporters of entrepreneurship in Jordan.

    The seminar speakers emphasized the significance of entrepreneurship in the Middle East and around the world, as a key force to drive the innovation process and enable the economies to grow and survive the tsunami of global competition. Accordingly, as a matter of public policy, regional and national governments are putting increasing emphasis on supporting entrepreneurship as a critical ingredient to enable successful job creation. The speakers also talked about success stories and lessons learned from diversified array of initiatives to promote entrepreneurship. The speakers then took enquires from the floor and answered them, creating a lively discussion on issues of concern to the attendees.

    Upon the conclusion of the seminar activity, Dr. Al-Qudah revealed that as of the next academic year, PSUT is going to launch world-class programs in business in addition to running the existing Management Information Systems program. He also disclosed that MIT and PSUT are currently sharing several educational resources and activities since the latter is thriving to become the MIT of the Middle East.

    Founded in October 2004 and located at Jubaiha, the QRCE, a non-for-profit and non-governmental establishment, is part of El-Hassan Science City which comprises the PSUT, the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), and the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST). The QRCE has played an active role in advocating entrepreneurship as public policy and in promoting the knowledge-based economy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the region. The QRCE partners with and is sponsored by King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB), King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), Google, Royal Jordanian, Orange, Optimiza, Jordan Dubai Capital, and Jordan Business Magazine.

  • 2. Partnership Agreement Signed between QRCE and Al Ahli Holding Group.

    AMMAN, Jordan - (Jan. 2009) - Under the patronage of Dr. Adel Al-Twaysi - Chairman of the founding committee of El-Hassan Science City – the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) held a press conference to announce partnership with Al Ahli Holding Group UAE through which it will provide technical support to the 2nd round of the "Global Business Opportunities" program. Mr. Mohammad Khammas –the CEO of the Al Ahli Holding Group was present, while QRCE was represented by Mr. Mohammad Khawaja –the Deputy Director.

    The “Global Business Opportunities” program was launched last year aiming at expanding Arab youth capacity to work with peers from various countries and cultures in developing successful world-class ventures, as well as establishing newly-born companies that supply global markets with products and services of high economic value. A group of Arab youth and participants from Argentina took part in the program’s first trial, in which they underwent specialized courses in business development, which helped them acquire the entrepreneurial skills needed for venture success.
    Mr Mohamed Khammas, CEO of Al Ahli Holding Group said “I am extremely proud to be forging this new partnership with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship and expanding the platform of partners to include their valuable knowledge and insight into our programs. Our aim is to lead by example and show the private sector what can be achieved with active and actual social responsibility. Through our dedicated CSR division it is our aim to develop Arab youth, building their skills and widening their horizons, exposure, acceptance and understanding among the Arab and International youth. To achieve this we work with passion, honesty and integrity, using the power of partnership and co-operation with different organizations that can, and will join hands with us to build business leaders of tomorrow”.

    This year, the program is going to include participants from Jordan, South Africa, Brazil, UAE and Argentina. In addition to the specialized training courses, QRCE will provide seasoned mentors from leading companies around the world to support participating teams in enhancing their business plans and honing their abilities to seize global economic opportunities, as well as building successful global companies. The program will also include field visits to major companies and factories in hosting countries in order to expand the participants’ knowledge and increase their understanding of work environment in different countries, as well as understanding each country’s specificity, both culturally and socially.

    This initiative is characterized by focusing on founding teams of various nationalities and cultures to create an environment of integration and teamwork as well as increase chances to learn through interaction with different cultures and people. Participants will compete in marketing their ideas to members of an international judging committee composed of Arab and foreign investors as well as business administration experts, who will given the team a big chance to finance and materialize their projects after assessing the socio-economic feasibility and global impact.

    Last year, QRCE established partnerships with many institutions that contribute in supporting it; namely: Google, King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau, Orange, Jordan Commercial Bank, Jordan Dubai Capital, Optimiza Academy, Jordan Business Magazine, and Royal Jordanian.

    QRCE aims at developing business entrepreneurship in various sectors of technology in Jordan by focusing on such activities as: capacity building, consulting, and development of the local spirit and entrepreneurial personality. QRCE also oversees several local as well as international programs, including: Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Competition, CONNECT-Jordan program, the Technology Commercialization program, the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute, and the Student Entrepreneurship Society –DART- that contributes to promoting the culture of entrepreneurship among students of Jordanian universities, via diverse events and activities throughout the year.

    QRCE is considered as an essential part of El-Hassan Science City, which includes leading national institutions, namely: Princess Sumaya University of Technology, the Higher Council of Science and Technology, and the Royal Scientific Society.
