iDeas @ Megabucks '09

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur celebrates its Tenth Annual Business and Entrepreneurship Festival, Megabucks ’09, from the 9th to the 11th of January, 2009. This year, Megabucks will kick off IIT Kanpur’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

IIT Kanpur is a premier university in India. Ranked among the best in the world, the Institute carries out original research of significance and technology development at the cutting edge. It imparts training to students so that they become competent and motivated engineers and scientists. IIT Kanpur has given numerous successful entrepreneurs, leaders and visionaries to society.

Megabucks is one of the biggest business and entrepreneurship festivals held in India, and with the passage of time, it has grown into a phenomenon and gained great recognition in both academic and corporate circles. Today, Megabucks can boast of building a strong and faithful network of successful businessmen, venture capitalists, angel investors and distinguished academicians.

iDeas, the Business Plan Competition at Megabucks, has established its identity as a fertile breeding ground for the future Tatas, Birlas and Ambanis of the country. The competition attracts participation from Indian institutes of repute such as the IITs and IIMs, as well as from renowned institutions abroad, Stanford University’s Graduate School Of Business, Purdue University and National University Of Singapore to name a few. iDeas has fostered successful start-ups like Kalzoom Technologies, Transversal E-Networks and Geo-X.

This year, iDeas goes to the next level, forging newer partnerships with industry and academia. Net seed capital up for grabs at iDeas ’08 exceeded INR 4 crore (USD 1 million), and it can only be higher this time round. Our vast network of venture capitalists, angel investors, incubation hubs and entrepreneurs who serve as mentors and incubators makes sure you get connected to the right people in the industry. Cut throat competition from the best in the world will give you tremendous exposure and will be an excellent test of your business acumen.

The prizes for iDeas ’09 line up as follows:

First : INR 1,00,000
Second : INR 50,000
Third : INR 25,000

In addition to these prizes, all finalists will be given goodies worth INR 50,000 in all.

Important dates:

7th September 2008 : iDeas ’09 launched; executive summaries of business plans invited
1st October 2008 : Deadline for submission of executive summaries of business plans
5th October 2008: Extended Deadline for submission of executive summaries
25th October 2008 : Results of round one declared; business plans invited
25th November 2008 : Deadline for submission of business plans
20th December 2008 : Results of round two declared; final presentations invited
1st January 2009 : Deadline for submission of final presentations
9th – 11th January 2009: Final round; presentations made to panel of judges
11th January 2009 : Results of finals declared
