  • 1. Carrotmob Bar Confirmed!!

Shotwell's has confirmed their commitment to using 25% of profits from the Carrotmob on October 24th for environmental retrofits. We had a great competition with 4 bars bidding over each other!

Originally we were focused on the Mission, but after receiving outside interest from bars with sustainability commitments in other neighborhoods, we decided to open it up. The other bars (in addition to Shotwell's) that have all shown outstanding commitment to going green are Mojito, Hemlock, and The Page.

As most of you know, this event is in conjunction with 350.org Day of
Action to fight climate change. Find out more about them here.

Our goal is to have mobbers send out 350 tweets about the event to get as many supporters out as we can! Here are the details of the event for the tweets:

    What: Shotwell's Carrotmob
    Date: Saturday, October 24th
    Address: 3349 20th Street
(between Folsom St & Shotwell St)
    Time: 6pm to 9pm

Reminder: Drink responsibly for you and the planet!

  • 2. Get ZeroWasted Pub Crawl Success

The Green & Tonic Get ZeroWasted Pub Crawl was a huge success! We raised $516 for the Carrotmob winner and over 100 people attended!

As one crawler said, “It’s so awesome, I get to drink $2 solar powered beer!” Thanks to Carey at Doc's Clock for providing us this deal along with Anderson Valley. Also thanks to Don at Casanova and H at Eilixir for opening up their bars to us and offering amazing green drink specials.

  • 3. Mojito's 4th Anniversary: Going Green!

Mojito turned 4 years old and they're celebrating their anniversary on Oct 14th, 15th, and 16th. They decided to theme their party "Mojito Goes Green." Green & Tonic appeared at Mojito tonight at 11:30pm to support their efforts to go green. They have recently started composting and use compostable/biodegradable products.

    What they're doing NOW:

    Composts and recycles!!
Uses biodegradable straws and corn cups
    Uses eco-friendly cleaning supplies
Disposes of toxics appropriately - works with Sirona Fuels for Vegetable Oil Pick-Ups

What they would like to do in the NEAR FUTURE:
    Teaches employees best sustainable practices
    Installs energy efficient lighting
Has low flow or high efficiency toilets and urinals

What they will aim for in the FUTURE:
Buys recycled paper products (napkins, toilet paper, paper towels - ideally: finds paper towel alternative)

Uses recycled paper and soy-based ink for promotional materials
    Sells local and organic alcohol

YAY Mojito!! Big kudos for their efforts!

When you are at the bar, to save water ask to reuse your glass instead
of getting a new one each time. Remember: alcohol kills germs!
