  • 1. Sumit your mobile ideas on Sunday night and have a chance to win 5000 SEK!!!


    Hi,

    Tomorrow Sunday you have to submit your Mobile Business Idea descriptions for Competition Round 1. Deadline is before midnight on the 22nd of February 2009.
    Prizes: 5 x SEK 5.000 (about USD 600)

    Compete with your ideas of tomorrow's cool new mobile services have a chance to win prizes in all 3 competition rounds!

  • 2. How to compete in Excitera Mobile Cup 2009?

    Your first challenge is to come up with fresh ideas for new mobile services. The jury will announce the winners judging from four base criteria: creativity, usability, market potential and level of innovation.

    In the first round of the competition you will have to submit a 2 page description of a new idea, plus sketches or technical specifications (in English). Upload your PDF at www.mobilecup.se or by following the instructions below.

    You may compete with and submit up to 5 separate Business Ideas!

    The following main categories will be open for submissions:

    - advertising
    - business, e-commerce and ticketing
    - entertainment (art, games, music and sports)
    - news, media and e-learning
    - social networking

    Enter your idea in the category where you think it fits best.

  • 3. FAQ: How to submit your ideas, competition info, etc...

    HOW TO SUBMIT

    Submit instructions:

    You can submit your entry at submit@mobilecup.se. You have to specify the following:

    1 user name (user name attained at registration)*
    2 category (visit Rules and Guidelines for information at www.handshake.se/mobilecup)
    3 project name (choose and use a name for your project)
    4 round (specify which competition round or rounds your entry applies to)
    5 participants (specify the names and email of all participants)

    *if you are having technical problems to register a user profile at mobileup.se, you can of cause compete in round 1 anyway!!! Just follow the submit instructions above. We will help you to register and create a user profile at mobilecup.se later, before competition round 2.

    FORMALITIES

    Who is eligible to compete?
    University and High School Students from all around the world, and
    university alumni (since not more than 5 years).

    Do I need a team in order to participate?
    You can compete alone or in a team of up to 3 people, all of which have to be students or alumni.

    How many applications is each team allowed to submit?
    Each individual/team can compete with up to 5 different ideas.
    You are actually allowed to submit more than 5 ideas in round 1 but we recommend that you focus on and submit your best 5 ideas.

    Can my company participate in the competition?
    No, it’s a competition for individuals.

    Can I be competing in several teams?
    Yes.

    Do I need to have a deep understanding of the technology involved in order to participate?
    No, anyone can compete! In step 1 and 2 of the competition you don’t need any technical knowledge. For step 3 we will supply you with easy to use tools to create your very own prototype even if you have limited technical knowledge.

    Do I really need to use the Mobilstart Platform?
    Since Mobilstart is our main sponsor, you have to use at least one of the tools provided by Mobilstart. You should check them out at mobilstart.se.

    What are the limitations when it comes to phone models and operators?
    There are no limitations, the competition is platform independent! And the Mobilstart tools works in any network and on any phone in any country.

    When is the deadline for my application?
    -Step 1, 22 February 2009 (Idea description, 1-2 pages)
    -Step 2, 22 March 2009 (Concept description, max 10 pages)
    -Step 3, 26 April 2009 (Working prototype)

    ABOUT THE CUP

    What is Excitera?
    Excitera is the student-run entrepreneurship association at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm Sweden. Excitera is the organizer of Excitera Mobile Cup. Excitera also host the Swedish Game Awards and the Excitera Innovation Challenge. Look here for more info: www.excitera.se

    What is Handshake?
    Handshake is a new independent community for people interested in mobile services and technology.

    Why is the cup being held?
    Excitera mission is to encourage students and alumni students to become interested in Entrepreneurship. By hosting competitions such as Mobile Cup, Excitera wants to inspire students to start thinking about their own business ideas.

    Has it been held before?
    This is the first year Excitera Mobile Cup is held. Previous years excitera has hosted a smaller competition called “Charon” which was a prototype competition for Mobile IMS-services.

    Who is organizing the cup?
    Excitera is organizing the Mobile Cup, with lots of support from our
    advisory board and sponsors.

    Who are the sponsors?
    The main partner is MobilStart. Other partners are: Adobe, Microsoft, SUN, Telenor, Bozoka, Idevio and SSES.

    Who can enter the competition?
    All university (and high school) students as well as university alumni
    (since max 5 years).

    Who is in the jury?
    Representatives from the sponsors and the Swedish mobile industry.

    What are the prizes?
    There are 3 round of the competition, with prizes in each round.
    Round 1 prizes: 5 X 5.000 SEK (about 600 USD)
    Round 2 prizes 5 X 10.000 SEK (about 1.200 USD)
    Round 3 Prize 100.000 SEK (about 12.000 USD)

    ABOUT MOBILE SERVICES:

    So what is a “mobile service”?
    
A mobile service could be an application for mobile phones such as the iPhone. It could also be a regular webpage with some kind of mobile functionality or connectivity, such as a Facebook app or a Myspace widget. The most typical example of a mobile service is the standard premium service - web sites selling ring tones for mobile phones.

    Is it difficult to create a mobile service?

    Recently a KTH student created a new mobile service using the Mobilstart toolbox in just 15 minutes. The service made it possible to purchase access codes to WiFi hotspots by just sending an SMS. It’s that easy!

    What if I lack knowledge of designing or programming mobile services?
    
It doesn’t matter… start innovating! Don’t get hung up on what you don’t know, just focus on your ideas and let that creativity carry you forwards. We’ll do everything in our power to make it as easy as possible for you to get started creating your first mobile services. You will be given access to interesting workshops, video tutorials, professional mentors, free software, inspirational lectures and networking events. Through the Handshake community, you will have opportunity to meet other team members with complimentary competences.
