ABOUT US

The Business Plan Competition

The Business Plan Competition is substantially more comprehensive and challenging than the Business Idea Competition in various aspects:

• Business proposals are expected to be substantially developed and ready for implementation
• The first phase of the Business Plan Competition requires submitting an Executive Summary which includes the same elements required to participate in the Business Idea Competition, with the added requirement that each of the original 5 elements be more fully developed than was expected at the Idea stage plus two additional elements not included in the Business Idea Competition. These elements require in-depth analysis and planning
• The addition of the Mentoring Program, where semi-finalist will be assigned mentors to assist them in the development of the full business plan
• Semi-finalists and finalists will participate in highly specialized workshops to assist them in preparing their business plans
• The finalists will be required to present their business plan in a private session to a panel of judges, which will include a valuable Q&A session. In addition, finalist will make an “elevator pitch” type of presentation to the general audience of the Annual Summit of the PR Venture Forum

The Business Plan Competition is divided in three phases:
1. Executive Summary Submission – The requirement for the executive summary are a short, written description of the product/service idea, the market opportunity, your competitive advantage, an execution plan, a brief description of the skills, experience and achievements that qualifies the team to execute on this idea, a description of the business/financial model that demonstrates viability and an analysis of the risk and critical success factors (see Entry Form section for additional details). September 28, 2010.

2. Semi-finalists – 15 semi-finalists will be selected, assigned mentors and provided the guidance for developing the complete Business Plan. Mentors will assist them in the process and a series of specialized workshops have been designed to help them in this task. The 15 semi-finalist will submit the complete Business Plan for evaluation by our judges by November 12, 2010.

3. Finalist – 5 finalists will be selected for presenting to a panel of judges in a private session to be held on December 4th, which includes a Q&A session with the judges. In addition, all finalists will make an “elevator pitch” type presentation to the general audience at the 11th Annual Puerto Rico Venture Forum, to be held on December 7, 2010.
