  • The Competing Pitches are Announced!

    Dear Entrepreneur,

Here are short summaries of the pitches that will be presented on Monday night at the Business School. There is no need to register to attend. Please come along to LT1 at 6:30pm. After the 5 5-minute pitches and feedback from the judges (think Dragon's Den!), the winner will be announced during the drinks reception. The last competition was quite intense! This event is definitely not to be missed!

    FatigueMonitor - Roko Mijic

FatigueMonitor is a nascent high-technology solution to a very important problem - the debilitating effects of chronic fatigue syndrome, which the author has suffered from for over six years. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) are the only two treatments which have been shown to work in clinical trials for people with CFS, but it is costly and effectiveness of the treatment drops after the CBT/GET has finished. FatigueMonitor is a system to record and plan activities for CFS sufferers using a smartphone application, possibly incorporating vital sign monitoring and a machine learning algorithm - to give the benefits of CBT and GET in a quick, cost-effective and personalized way.

WeSeeBands provides seed funding for bands. - Bianca Grizhar

Seeing Hamfatter successfully raise funding for an alternative record deal on Dragon's Den sparked the idea of providing early stage investment for bands, which they desperately need. Similar to Y Combinator for startups, WeSeeBands will give musicians the chance to produce an album for a small stake in their returns while all artistic control remains with the band. Additional business development support and a network of artists, investors and industry experts will help bands to "start their business" and to reach their goal: self-sustainability or the big record deal.

Its unique “bubble interface” allows professionals with little technical training to efficiently track and stay informed about their key contacts. It will also automatically generate new sales leads, allowing these busy people to close more sales and raise more financing than before.

    Wikijob - Chris Muktar

We receive 100,000 unique monthly visitors and been on BBC News 24, BBC Radio 4, The Guardian, The Times and numerous industry journals and blogs. KPMG ranks us as the second most used careers website by graduates. We are looking at commercialisation and are hoping to become profitable in the coming months, potentially with the assistance of investors.

By answering quick questions, the user is given a selection of high quality short films selected mostly from film festivals, which are not easy to find at regular retailers. The website is free, but the users who buy a subscription for at least £5 are granted access to higher quality services, such as High Definition video watching. First, Cinemoods will focus on the UK market of over 12 million households, but the offer will be extended to the USA and non-English-speaking countries.
