2. Next Week: The Israeli Model
The Phenomenon of Global Technology Entrepreneurship Leadership: The Israeli Model by Michael Clouser
Date: Tuesday 16 March 2010, 6:30-8:00pm
Location: Lecture Theatre 1, Business School, 7 Bristo Square
Israel, a small nation with a population of 7 million with no natural resources and in continous, war, has become a leader in global technology entrepreneurship. On a per-capita basis, it has 80 times more startups than Europe, has attracted 30 times more venture capital than Europe, and twice the amount as the United States.
This talk answer these question: "What are the key datapoints that point to Israel's unrivaled success?"; "What is the Israeli Model and what are its crucial components?"; "What can governments learn from the Israeli Model in developing innovative and entrepreneurial regions"?; and "What can entrepreneurs learn from the Israeli Model"?

3. Pitching Competition: Congratulations Javid Khan and Kate Ho
Congratulations to Javid and Kate for winning this semester’s E-Club Pithing Competition sponsored by Santander. Ideas ranged from speed recruiting to personalised user interfaces, smart CRM systems that nudge leads, and mobile phones for the hearing impaired.
Stakes were high, with £1000 cash and registration to Angel’s Den (a forum for entrepreneurs and investors) as prizes for the top two contestants to help them get their businesses underway.
The dragon panel included Cameron Thomson from Angel’s Den, John Hughes from Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Patrick Andrews from ScotSkills, and Scott McLellan from Santander.
It was Javid Khan of Holoxica that won the cash for his captivating 3D holographic technology, and Kate Ho of Interface3 who won Angel’s Den membership for her startup designing software for multi-touch devices.

4. Enterprisers: Free week-long business retreat
Are you a student/recent graduate interested in starting a business or in an early stage startup? Enterprisers, delivered by the University of Cambridge, could give you an unfair advantage!
I'd encourage all students in E-Club to check out this programme (I've been twice before and will be there again!). Thanks to Informatics Ventures, all of your costs are covered - that includes the course, travel, accommodation in Stirling, and even meals! Amazing.
The Enterprisers programme is aimed at ambitious and energetic individuals. The programme is fun, action-orientated, practical and based on experiential learning, i.e learning by doing. It is about inspiring people to develop entrepreneurial skills and a ‘can do’ attitude with the confidence to make things happen.
Apply by 15th March: Application here.

5. E-Club Committee Positions: Want to get more involved?
We're forming an E-Club Committee to drive the club forward with more power and zest, and you may be just what we need.
Want to help organise new events?
Want to reach out to other cool groups?
Want to initiate other projects within the club?
Want to help photo or video events so we can preserve the valuable talks?
Want to work on PR and E-Club publicity?
Want to coordinate the E-Club library of business books?
Want to raise money... or perhaps down the line spend money?
There is much more we could do as a Club, but we need a strong team to help make new things happen. If you are interested, either for the next few months or for the Fall, email entrepreneurship@ed.ac.uk with a brief description of how you might like to help.
